Green micro-algae contain oil(15 to 40)%, proteins,
cellulose and other carbohydrates.              


Uses for processed algae are: oil for biofuel, proteins
for animal feed, and cellulose
for particleboard, paper,
and fuel.
 
 

The basic research used to commercialize the farming
of micro-algae was performed by the The U.S. Department
of Energy's Aquatic Species Program Biodiesel from Algae. 
They released a 299 page report which covered the work

performed between 1978 to 1996.
